Proper Wedding Reception Etiquette

Find More About Proper Wedding Reception Etiquette

The wedding reception etiquette will depend on the type of reception or wedding ceremony that you are having.

If you are having a traditional wedding, the standard etiquette rules will apply.

If you are having an informal wedding and a reception, the rules of etiquette are more relaxed than they are for a formal or traditional wedding. Once you decide the type of wedding reception you are having, then you can follow the etiquette and have a perfect reception without anyone questioning your choices.

Wedding reception etiquette includes beverages, food, and seating, wedding favors, gifts and music. For a traditional wedding reception, you want the seating set up around the head table where the wedding party will sit. At a reception that is more relaxed, you might not have a seating plan per say.

The one thing that never changes at a wedding reception is who starts the food line. The wedding party always starts the food line if you have a buffet and for a sit down dinner, the wedding party is always served first.

If you have no idea about the wedding reception etiquette, you can ask for advice or look online for help. The ideas about the etiquette do change for each wedding, but there are some things that stay the same for every wedding. One thing that stays the same is the dinner serving schedule and the gift opening. Gifts are opened the next day and not at the reception. Of course, this can change if you are having a more casual or relaxed wedding and reception.

When you plan you wedding and reception, you should try to follow some of the rules of etiquette to keep the reception what it is supposed to be. The proper wedding reception etiquette is meant to keep everything flowing smoothly and to help with the planning of the ceremony and reception.
