This is the minimum time, and sending invitations later than this will make the preparations so much harder. You can also ask the guests to say if they are coming or not at least 3 weeks before the wedding, so you can still make the last arrangement then.

If you have relatives in far away countries it is a good idea to send their invitations at least 2 months before the ceremony. As you see, the sooner you send the invitations the better. When you have already the final guest list it is much easier to arrange the rest of the things in a relaxed way.
