When getting ready to send out your wedding invitations, there are some basic traditional etiquette rules that you can use as guidelines.

In this article we will give you some wedding invitation wording examples that cover different family situations.

First let’s go through the parts of a traditional wedding invitation text, so that you can understand the different parts of an invitations.

1) The person or persons paying for the wedding are considered the hosts. This is traditionally the parents of the bride.

2) Next comes the request for your family and friends to attend the wedding:

request the honor (or honour) of your company
At the marriage of their daughter

3) The bride and groom are named next, the bride’s first and middle name only, and the groom’s title and full name

4) Now the date, day and time is added written out, followed by the
location and address.

If there will be a separate reception card included with the invitation, you are finished. If not add the reception location and time to the invitation.

You can adapt any invitation wording samples to fit your unique situation and personal taste. Let’s take a look at a number of invitation samples, to fit different family situations. A wedding being hosted by the bride’s parents would look something like this:

The above is a traditional wedding invitation wording sample.

If the couple is paying for the wedding, the first few lines of the invitation would likely be :

Melanie Louise Langdon
And
Stephen William Richardson
invite you to share in their joy
at their wedding
day, date, time
place
address, city, state
or
together with their families
Melanie Louise Langdon
And
Stephen William Richardson
etc.

When both sets of Parents host the wedding, the bride’s parents are mentioned first and then the groom’s.

Mr. and Mrs. John Richards
And
Mr. and Mrs. Tyler Smith
request the pleasure of your company
at the marriage of their children
Susan Ellen Richards
And
William Tyler Smith
etc.
